  • Specializing in operations, strategy and inclusion.

  • Managing, problem solving and effectively delivering in high pressure and multitasking situations. 

  • Works to create accessible, inclusive and safe spaces by contracting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ talent and vendors, and accounting for those with physical accessibility needs, BIPOC communities, the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, gender non-binary attendees, and more. 

  • Supervising, training and motivating staff and volunteer teams (10 to 240 individuals at a time, varying between events).

  • Post-event tracking and ROI analysis to help measure marketing initiatives and improve performance.

  • Developed, tracked and managed project phases and deliverables from inception through final delivery for 100+ successful events.

Director of Membership and Development

Business for a Better Portland |  October 2020 to February 2022

Business for a Better Portland (BBPDX) pools the social and political capital of local business leaders by collaborating for systemic change to address Portland’s greatest challenges, generate shared prosperity, and advance social justice and equity.

  • Led the successful recovery and revitalization of BBPDX's revenue streams after dire economic impacts as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

  • Conceptualized and implemented the inaugural Civic Access Program, which offers free or sliding scale membership for BIPOC- and LGBTQ+-owned small businesses, as well as businesses in sectors that have been hit hard by the economic impacts of Covid-19. The goal of this program was to remove economic barriers to accessing BBPDX's resources. 

  • Developed and executed successful communications strategy that provides membership with consistent, accessible civic engagement opportunities in BBPDX's three policy focus areas.

Executive Director

Willamette Week's Give!Guide  |   December 2016 to March 2020

Willamette Week's Give!Guide is Portland's largest grassroots, city-wide fundraising campaign. Started in 2004, it has raised more than $32.8 million for 387 local nonprofits in the last 16 years. G!G's fundraising provides services for more than 2 million Portlanders each year. During my time, I: 

 

Fundraising​​

  • Raised more than $13.1 million for local nonprofits.

  • Tripled Give!Guide’s sustaining funders and sponsorships and increased young donor giving (under 36) by 65%. 

  • Planned and administered an annual budget of $343k to produce a collaborative fundraising campaign that raised $4.1 million+ annually for 150 local and national nonprofits from 10,000+ donors.

  • Oversaw grant administration process, facilitating annual committee of 10+ diverse community stakeholders to select 150 nonprofits as funding recipients.

  • Generated and maintained systems to track fundraising, donations and overall philanthropic impact, and produced an annual report for distribution to community stakeholders

Community Leadership

  • Developed and led programming to educate, train and engage more than 300 nonprofit development teams and community partners in data-centric marketing best practices and effective campaign communications. 

  • Fostered and maintained strategic relationships with 100+ partners, including Patagonia, Prosper Portland, the Oregon Community Foundation, the Oregon Cultural Trust, Comcast, Nike, the Trail Blazers, and more.

Equity & Inclusion​

  • Navigated complex relationships and political dynamics with more than 250 diverse nonprofits to gain buy-in and build lasting relationships based on shared values of trust, equity and inclusion. 

  • Provided empathic, intersectional and equitable support, collaboration and resource access for small and culturally-specific nonprofits.

  • Elevated and centered the voices of Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) Portlanders throughout Give!Guide’s various campaign channels.

Communications & Marketing

  • Leveraged audience insights and brand story 

  • Edited G!G Magazine (distribution of 20k), collaborating with BIPOC writers and non-dominant community stakeholders to accurately and effectively convey the stories of Portland change makers, philanthropic innovators, and impactful nonprofits to key audiences. 

  • Collaborated with stakeholders to set annual content direction and translate that direction to multi-channel fundraising strategies.

  • Crafted and oversaw messaging guidelines, ensuring brand, voice and content consistency across marketing platforms and 150 nonprofit channels. 

  • Wrote, fact-checked and edited Give!Guide collateral, including annual reports, press releases, digital newsletters, email appeals, messaging frameworks, social media posts, advertising campaigns, website copy and more. 

Global Community Manager

Bee Built (FKA Bee Thinking)  |  October 2015 to November 2016

Bee Built (formerly Bee Thinking) is a natural beekeeping company, providing specialty foundationless Top Bar, Warré and Langstroth cedar hives and mason bee houses to support pollinator populations. During my time, I:

  • Supervised a close-knit team of three to collaboratively develop and implement an environmental education-focused digital marketing campaign, resulting in more than $1.1 million revenue in six months. 

  • Researched and implemented tactics to increase product and service appeal, writing informative and compelling product descriptions in the brand voice.

  • Managed and produced product photoshoots, editing and uploading images and product descriptions to various ecommerce platforms. 

  • Utilized search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, and edited and revised content as needed to maximize website traffic. 

  • Supported complete rebranding process in collaboration with company founders and external design team.  

Marketing Manager

& Tea Tender

Brew Dr. Tea Company (FKA Townshend's Tea Company) |   July 2013 to October 2015

Towshend's Tea was the tea retailer and wholesale company that eventually morphed into Brew Dr. Tea Company. During my time, I:

  • Wrote copy and messaging across organic social media platforms, increasing social media engagement 90% within 6 months of taking over social channels.

  • Oversaw content strategy and copywriting from conception to implementation for the Townshend’s Tea website, social media outlets, digital newsletter and more.

  • Supervision and execution of brand activation at 20+ regional events. 

Regional Music Coordinator

University of Oregon Cultural Forum |   June 2014 to June 2015

The University of Oregon Cultural Forum provided cultural events for UO students, including art exhibits, concerts, and the annual Willamette Valley Music Festival. During my time, I:

  • Managed a budget of $11,000 to produce 5 successful concerts and the Camelia Feminist Festival, including artists such as Mac Demarco, Kevin Morby, Jessica Pratt, Hustle and Drone, Tomorrows Tulips and more. 

  • Secured more than $5,000 in sponsorships from Pabst Blue Ribbon, Brew Dr. Kombucha, the Eugene Weekly, KWVA Radio and the Barnlight. 

  • Spearheaded the inaugural Camellia Feminist Fest from conception to implementation, resulting in 400+ attendance and digital buzz reaching over 100,000. 

Student Education Manager

University of Oregon Zero Waste Program  |   September 2012 to August 2014

The University of Oregon Zero Waste Program provides state-of-the-art waste reduction and recovery opportunities to campus, maximizing waste diversion with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas production. During my time, I:

  • Collaboratively researched, developed and wrote the Zero Waste Campus Toolkit, which was used by five other universities as a policy guideline for building their zero waste infrastructure and programs.

  • Educated more than 4,000 incoming students on University of Oregon sustainability goals and zero waste practices.

Research Assistant

Tribal Climate Change Project  |   May 2011 to August 2012

The Tribal Climate Change Project focuses on understanding needs and opportunities for tribes in addressing climate change, examining the government-to-government relationship in a climate context and exploring the role of traditional knowledge in climate change studies, assessments and plans. During my time as a research assistant, I: 

  • Created, organized and maintained a funding database with the goal of removing funding barriers and building capacity for Native American tribes in EPA Region 9 to plan and execute climate change-related projects.

  • Researched and authored profiles highlighting tribal implementation of climate change mitigation projects.
